Volunteers

Information

Hinenu, formerly an EMA Care initiative, has over 8,000 volunteers registered, of which 3,000 are physicians and 4,000 are other medical professionals. We have physician volunteers from virtually every specialty, which allows us to assist any hospital department in finding appropriate volunteers that meet their needs.  Our specialty priority list changes according to the needs identified by medical institutions, and many specialties not normally connected to war are needed as well.  For example, many pediatricians were drafted for the war effort, leaving a gap in pediatric departments.  During the war, smaller hospitals have reduced access to specialist consults from tertiary medical institutions, leaving gaps in patient care.  There are many such examples in virtually every hospital in Israel.

There are also instances where institutions are looking for clinical collaborations to help with resident training, skill development, and consultations on challenging cases.  This is the basis for long-term volunteer relationship programs.

We work directly with institutions to help them onboard volunteers, and we also work with other organizations that help specific departments with volunteer placements.  ALL specialties and subspecialties are welcome to register to volunteer.  Our volunteers get updates from us regularly, and if their specialty is identified as an institution priority, we contact you to start sending the required documents for volunteer temporary licensing and placements.

This list typically includes:

  • Current medical license

  • Copy of Medical academic degree (or equivalent)

  • Proof of specialization (certificate of residency, fellowship, boards etc.)

  • Passport

  • CV

We also provide a link to a consent form so we can share your information with medical institutions, the Ministry of Health, and points of contact for the facilitation of volunteer processing and logistics.
Once you are selected for volunteering, you may also have to provide vaccine information.  This is institution-dependent and can vary.  Hinenu will provide you with this information in advance, if applicable to your volunteer site.
